Imago Dei

Synergy Feat
Prerequisite

You know the secret to creating life from inanimate material. You gain the following benefit:

  • You learn the find familiar spell, but the material component is replaced with 10 gold worth alchemical reagents, consumed by the spell. This does not count toward your spells known. Any creature you summon using this feature is considered a construct instead of its usual creature type. You may also summon a homunculus when casting the spell in this way.
  • You may cast animate objects once per long rest as though using a 5th-level spell slot. If you concentrate on the spell for its full duration, you may also choose to impart sentience to one of the animated objects. In addition to the stats it gains as an animated object, the object gains Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores of 10, senses identical to those of a human, and learns one language you know. If the object does not have any structure that would correspond to a mouth, it can speak telepathically to any creature within 30 feet of it with which it shares a language. Objects awakened in this manner are charmed by you for 30 days or until your or your companions harm them. During this period, you may revoke the sentience of such objects by touching them and spending an action. Objects that lose their sentience cannot be targeted by spells and effects that normally target dead creatures such as revivify or speak with dead . Afterward, the object may choose to remain friendly to you depending on how it was treated while charmed.

Notes for Imago Dei

With the permission of the Narrator, you may instead choose to roll 4d4 three times and use the results for the object’s Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores when using the Imago Dei feat.

If revoking sentience is morally unsettling for you or your character, consider flavoring this feat as having the ability to bind and unbind spirits to objects such that the spirits persist in an immaterial form between bindings.
