The ocean is both wide and incredibly bountiful, and, when filled with tempest and torment, some of that incredible bounty can be torn loose. Perhaps a ship beleaguered by the ocean upon storm-tossed waves has come to grief, or a storm has raged with sufficient power to swirl up previously buried treasures from the oceanic depths and abyssess and bring them to a peaceful rest upon a beach. It is the beachcombers who walk the borders between the water and the land who come to harvest what others would consider trash and which they consider treasure.

Reef Singers will generally take things in good part and are always pleased to have someone perform for them. A feat of strength, a new song, or some well-turned trick of conjuring will win good-natured and enthusiastic applause. They prize being good-natured and the ability to laugh at one’s own mistakes. An easy way to upset them is to set oneself up as more important, or to be obviously wasteful either through excessive consumption leaving things uneaten or through destruction of property and beauty.

Coral reefs are more than colorful, stately structures—they are countless animals banding together and providing food, home, and protection to countless others. In turn, those who tend these reefs, too, exercise both teamwork and hospitality. Not only do these folk tend the coral, however, they are able to grow them at an astonishing rate.
